Movie budget in your attic?

The movies that I have financed myself have all come from a very unusual funding source. They were not financed by investors, credit cards or purchased in advance by distributors. Believe it or not they were financed by liquidating stuff that I have collected over the years. I got all the junk that I wasn’t using anymore and sold them here. Basically we just put the script together and started pre-production with no money and as we went along I begin to sell what I didn’t need and buy what we did need. You would be amazed how much crap you, your family and friends will have that will bring good money. I’ve bought cameras, lighting, sound, wordrobe and props using this method and I’m sure you could do the same. You might even ask the people helping you to put the movie together, actors and crew, if they could help out by letting you sell their items as well. Volume is the key and before you know it you will be sitting in a theater with all the people that helped watching the premiere of your next great flick. Good luck.

Allen, it’s good to hear from you. I’m not sure that this is how hollywood funds their flicks, but it is how we’ve done it.

This is a great thought. Everyone has some junk lying around that has the potential to become another man’s treasure.

It does take time to list items on eBay or sell them on Craigslist, but at least with the web we have these tools available to us which make the practice less time-consuming.
